Hultafors Group Manufacturing Plant in Mequon to Close in 2025, Impacting 45 Jobs
MEQUON, Wis. (Nov 12, 2024) — Wisconsin’s manufacturing sector is set to take a hit as Hultafors Group North America, LLC announced plans to close its Mequon facility in early 2025, resulting in the layoff of approximately 45 employees. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retention Notification (WARN) submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, the plant located at 6333 W. Donges Bay Road will permanently shut down in March 2025.
The layoffs are planned to occur in two phases. The initial round of job cuts is expected by March 28, 2025, with the final phase scheduled for the fourth quarter of the year. The decision comes as part of a broader operational reduction at Hultafors Group North America, impacting workers across various roles within the plant.
Support for Affected Employees
To assist employees during this transition, Hultafors Group will offer severance benefits, outplacement services, and other transition support programs. The company has confirmed that all employees will receive their earned wages and any agreed-upon benefits upon termination.
Employee records regarding job titles and the number of affected workers will be kept at the facility. Hultafors Group also noted that none of the impacted employees are covered by collective bargaining agreements or have bumping rights, meaning seniority-based job protections are not in place for these layoffs.
Looking Ahead
As Hultafors Group winds down its Mequon operations, the local workforce and community are preparing for the impact. With support measures in place, the company aims to ease the transition for its employees as it phases out operations in Wisconsin.
