Celebrate Freedom with a Twist: “Freaky 4th of July: MISCAST” at Fountain Park

The Sheboygan Theatre Company is flipping the script this Independence Day with a bold, joyful, and delightfully unpredictable celebration of musical theater. Mark your calendars for Freaky 4th of July: MISCAST, a one-afternoon-only performance happening July 4, 2025, right after the Sheboygan parade at the Fountain Park Band Shell.

Directed by acclaimed theater artist Abi Charbonneau, this free outdoor event invites audiences to experience the fun of musical theater reimagined. Imagine Mary Poppins belting out a number from Legally Blonde, or a sneak preview from Mamma Mia! delivered in the least expected way. That’s the magic of MISCAST—a stage where anyone can play anything.

“This production celebrates breaking boundaries and showcases the joy of artistic exploration,” said Tricia Roberts, Executive Director of STC. “It truly embodies the spirit of freedom and expression that the Fourth of July is all about.”

Charbonneau, a Midwest-born choreographer and performer with Off-Broadway credits and deep ties to educational theater, brings a vibrant and inclusive vision to the show. She describes the event as “full of surprises and heart” and a “bold and exciting” tribute to artistic freedom.

The show will feature iconic hits from past STC favorites as well as previews from their upcoming season. Expect unforgettable performances, gender-bending roles, and heartfelt moments from performers of all backgrounds.

Auditions are scheduled for Friday, May 23rd from 5–7 PM at the Recreation Department Offices (3330 Stahl Rd). Interested performers are encouraged to bring a musical theater piece they’d never traditionally be cast in—bonus points for picking a patriotic tune or a past STC number.

STC, entering its 92nd season, is one of Sheboygan’s most treasured cultural institutions, known for blending professional-quality productions with local heart. As a program of the Sheboygan Area School District Community Recreation Department, they continue to bring accessible, engaging theater to the entire community.
